Hi, I’m Beethoven.

Yes, that Beethoven. The one with the soulful eyes, excellent taste in toys, and a firm belief that every couch was made specifically for me.

My family adopted me when I was a baby, but my mom and dad are getting divorced. They have to move into apartments so they can’t keep me. They promised me that I will get a new loving family. I’m gonna miss the kiddos in my family

I came into this world of foster life with a very important possession: my stuffed squirrel. It was a welcome gift, and unlike the many other toys I’ve bravely “investigated” (and, okay… completely gutted), my squirrel remains untouched and under my protection. I don’t know what it is about that one—but it’s mine, and it stays safe. Always.

Now, about those other toys… I may have removed a squeaker or two. Or all of them. In my defense, I’m deaf—so I assume they’re unnecessary. Just doing a little quality control.

One of my favorite activities is riding shotgun. I like to perch up high so I can see everything—both sides of the road, straight ahead, all of it. I don’t miss a thing. Sometimes I reach over and place my paw on my foster mom’s hand, just to keep things steady… you know, for safety. People in other cars seem very interested in me. They slow down, stare, watch me watching them. I get it—I’m pretty captivating.

I’ve also recently discovered television. Yes, television. I don’t know why no one told me about this sooner, but I am now a fan. I like to sit and watch like a proper gentleman. It’s important to stay informed.

When I’m not working on my screen time, I enjoy the outdoors—especially little pools of fresh water… and, admittedly, mud holes. My best friend (a young pitbull mix with questionable influence) introduced me to the joys of mud. Now sometimes I come back inside looking like I’ve had a full spa day… a very messy one. After we run and chase each other for what feels like hours, we both crash hard for a well-earned nap.

Inside the house, I like to keep things interesting. I’ll hop up on the couch, scooch right up behind my foster mom, and casually claim her pillow. It’s a game. Everything is a game, really—especially if it gets me closer to you. I’m just as happy settling beside you, gently placing my paw on your hand, reminding you I’m there.

I love toys, especially when someone joins in. I might toss one your way or give it a good shake to get your attention. That’s my way of saying, “Hey, you—play with me.” I’ll fetch, return it, and do it all over again. I like a little challenge.

I’m also very polite, if I do say so myself. I take treats gently and return toys with what humans call a “soft mouth.” I just call it good manners.

One last thing—wherever I go, my squirrel goes too. That’s non-negotiable. It stays with me in my crate, safe among my treasures.

If you’re looking for a playful, observant, affectionate companion with a little bit of mischief and a lot of heart… I’m your guy.

—Beethoven
