thebufordproject.org was founded in 1995 by a group of community members who recognized the need for a local organization dedicated to helping homeless individuals. Since then, we have grown into a thriving nonprofit, serving hundreds of individuals each year.

Theo, who was previously known as Shadow, has a new dad! He is an only child and he is loving it. He loves going to the dog park especially after a good rain because his new dad is so cool, that he allows Theo to run and jump in muddy puddles. We love every adoption story but some are extra special because we know the rescue's history. Garry's owner died earlier this year and he had a really difficult time after his dad died. He and his sister, Merry, needed new forever families and we found the perfect family for both of them. His owner's family felt that Garry and his siste
We love every adoption story but some are extra special because we know the rescue's history. Garry's owner died earlier this year and he had a really difficult time after his dad died. He and his sister, Merry, needed new forever families and we found the perfect family for both of them. His owner's family felt that Garry and his sister, Merry, would do well being separated because they had very different personalities. God provided the perfect family for each. While Merry is an old gentle soul, Garry is quite the opposite. Merry has been adopted by a lovely lady who is retired and is enjoying a quiet home where she is thriving. Garry on the other hand, who is incredibly exuberant, has joined a busy household with two other dogs that match his energy! His owner's daughter is so relieved Garry and Merry have ended up with the perfect families! Happy trails Garry and Merry!

We are so excited to announce that Thelma has found her forever family! Thelma has joined a very busy household with young kiddos sure to keep her busy. She also gained a feline sibling who she is currently trying to win over. She is so pretty and sweet we are sure it won't take long at all. Abby will be going to work with her mom during the week and every weekend will be an adventure when she heads to the farm with her family and gets away from the city. Happy trails Abby!

We are overjoyed to announce that Dolly has her new forever family. While every rescue story is special, Dolly's adoption is extra special. Statistically dogs that are older and all black are more difficult to adopt. Dolly was in foster care for almost 6 months. God was working the whole time waiting for Dolly's family to emerge. God

Statistically dogs that are older and all black are more difficult to adopt. Dolly was in foster care for almost 6 months. God was working the whole time waiting for Dolly's family to emerge. God knew who was out there for her and brought them to her at a microchipping/adoption event. Dolly also had heartworms and she finished her treatments last month so she is happy and healthy and is settling in with her new family! And she has a new brother about her age named Charlie who adores her! Happy trails Dolly!

While she and the resident kitty cat, Tara, exchange curious side-eyes, they’re learning to coexist peacefully. We’re thrilled to see Laura thrive in her new life, surrounded by love and fun.
